Here it is, over eleven years since I’ve made an entry. Many things have happened; many trips to Florida. I am still employed with the same company, though I have essentially changed departments as the products I worked on have been phased out. Since Covid-19, I have been working from home in a spare bedroom converted to my office. Sue is still with TJ Maxx.
Sue has lost both her parents; Dad in 2016 and Mom in 2021. Everyone is older, and friends are having grandkids now. Newest neighbors, an enlisted submariner who just made STS1/SS and his Veterinarian Tech wife, have a seven-year-old and a three-year-old, three Great Danes, and a kitten.
After 30 years, the house needed some major work. New roof and new deck, and new windows. New mortgage.
I am driving a 2018 Honda Civic with a 1.5l Turbo and a six-speed manual. Probably my last stick shift, what with my knees and hips getting creaky. Sue is in a 2022 Honda CR-V, which curiously enough has the same 1.5l Turbo engine as the Civic. Probably tuned a bit differently (doesn’t even have a boost indicator), and using a CVT and all-wheel drive. What with that and the considerable weight difference, where I can get over 40 mpg on the highway, the CR-V gets about 35 max with a tailwind.
I met a group of friends from high school for a get-together in a nice bar in NJ last Friday, which prompted me to write again: they were asking about my submarine career, and I thought I should get everything up-to-date.
That’ll do it for now (that’ll do, Pig, that’ll do); just a short summary to kick things off. I’ll have some stories to tell, although I doubt I’ll have too many readers. Just feels good to get the words down on paper, as it were.
